Navigating the Christmas Period

The Christmas and New Year period can be a joyful time, but it can also bring changes and challenges especially when it comes to NDIS Supports. Public holidays, reduced provider availability, changes to routines, and increased costs can all impact participants and families.

Over the Christmas period, there are opten changes in routines, increased social activities and heightened sensory and emotional stress. For some participants, this may mean that additional support is required to manage fatigue, anxiety, behaviour or regulation. Planning early allows supports to be adjusted safely and appropriately.

Public Holidays & Support Availability

Many NDIS providers operate with reduced hours during public holidays, and some services may be unavailable or require advanced booking. This can affect:

  • Support Workers and shift availabilities

  • Allied health appointments

  • Plan managers and provider response times

  • Delivery and maintenance of equipment

If you rely on regular supports, it is important to plan ahead to avoid disruptions.

Higher Rates on Public Holidays

Under the NDIS price guide, supports delivered on public holidays are usually charged at a higher rate. This means your funding may be used more quickly if additional or extended supports are needed over Christmas and New Year. The following days are classified as Public Holidays:

  • 24th December 2025: Christmas Eve Night (6pm onwards)

  • 25th December 2025: Christmas Day

  • 26th December 2025: Boxing Day

  • 1st January 2026: New Years Day

What can you do now?

To stay on track over the holiday period, we recommend:

  • Confirming support worker availability and rosters in advance

  • Booking essential appointments early

  • Reviewing your funding

  • Planning for emergencies or backup supports

If you have any concerns about supports over the Christmas or New Year period, we encourage you to reach out early.

We wish you all a safe, calm, and enjoyable festive season!
